Want to learn how you can leverage a Law degree in more ways than practicing law? Listen to this recording to learn from the perspective of a mentor with a Law degree and another who is currently pursuing a degree.
To me, law school is more of a game. You want to try to make the right moves early on so that you are set up the right way when you graduate. This means working hard to get good grades your 1L year, trying to make law review or moot court your 2L year, and maybe getting some real legal experience through a clinic your 3L year. Also, no free summers. Summers are for gaining real-world legal experience with firms or judicial externships, etc. Additionally, you are often in a space where a lot of the majority students have family members that practice law or are in other high-level positions, so you want to be strategic about developing relationships that could later lead to potential opportunities for you.
Most students take out copious amounts of loans to fund law school. I discourage this as it might force you to end up doing legal work you do not love in an effort to pay them off. I recommend a strategy of trying to get in the best school that will give you the most money. Also, find opportunities to make money to offset tuition costs.
