Alia McCants is an educator, womanist, and proud nerd. As the Managing Director of Student Services at Relay Graduate School of Education, Alia oversees the work to provide each incoming student with the kind of positive, rigorous, and joyful experience we hope they, in turn, provide for their K12 students. In her previous six years at Relay, Alia has held a variety of roles: leading the national teacher recruitment team, launching the School’s alumni affairs department, and leading program operations for Relay’s largest campus and its national and local school leadership programs. Alia has also launched and led several initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism at Relay while providing consulting services for early-stage education start-ups. Alia began her career in education at the Match Charter Public High School in Boston and still remains in touch with many of her former students. She is a proud alumna of Spelman College and Columbia Business School, where she received the Forté Fellowship, the Feldberg Fellowship, and the Student Service Award for her focus on servant leadership on campus. Alia originally hails from San José, California. She currently resides in White Plains, New York with her husband and their twin children, who entered first grade in the fall. Alia is a Pahara NextGen Fellow, an active member of Education Leaders of Color, and the current President of her local chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College.
