The most impressive candidates are not the ones that have many ideas but the few who have presented an idea and exhibited their actions for execution. It is much more difficult to begin a project and follow through the necessary steps to complete it. Those that are able to hear a request or problem, digest it and provide logical steps to execution are impressive.
In my particular career, grant funding and evaluation are two necessary needs. Funding will help support the programs I developing and evaluation helps ensure that the programs have an impact. For both of those needs, I am working on being able to write persuasively, effectively communicate, and the ability to develop the proper questions to make sure the work that I do is successful.
Everyday, I have the opportunity to work with world renowned scientists, learning about cutting edge research. I then get to develop programs that will allow this work to reach a broader audience and introduce young students to pathways in STEM careers. While my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in chemistry, I have had the ability to learn about a wide breadth of work that spans the full spectrum of STEM.
